System Restore fails

I solved the problem making a folder named "Registration" in \Windows  and finding the file "R000000000001.clb" in \Windows\winsxs and putting into 'Registration' folder. Also I created the folder \windows\Registration\CRMLog   (empty).

Internet proxy issues

If LAN Settings is Greyed out Open "Regedit" navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings and set ProxySettingsPerUser = 1

At an admin prompt then check (or uncheck) the box to require a password.

MS Office 0x80000003

Try uninstalling EMET If you want that extra protection, reinstall the latest version.

MS Access to SQL using ODBC

Restart workstation

Attempt to log on immediately logs off again... logon immediately logs off

copy userinit.exe as wsaupdater.exe

Regedit

At the command prompt, type netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Restart the computer. and/or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233/en-us

Win Vista and 7 network disconnects or network resource errors

MS Essentials won't uninstall

If the system was infected, Essentials may fail to install.  You can try these two FixIt articles by Microsoft but more likely, you will have to repair via option 3...

  1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2435760

  2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2483120

  3. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/i-cant-install-microsoft-security-essentials

  4. Reinstall the Windows installer (makes no sense to us either, but it works)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8483

  5. Use the McAfee Removal Tool and the Norton Removal Tools
    McAfee Removal Tool: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331
    Norton Removal Tool: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

  6. If it exists, slave the drive to another computer and rename the c:\program files\Microsoft Security Client folder.  Once that folder is renamed, you can reinstall Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows 7 to older Windows server asks for username/pwd
